Directors of Dance Teams you have 2 choices either offend the dancers on your team by telling them they have to wear a different costume than what most of the dancers are wearing or offend the audience by letting them come out on stage with a costume they have no business wearing

So which is the lesser of the two evils? If you make a variation of the costume to make it more flattering for the dancer (instead of embarrassing) then who cares what the audience thinks? Size does not matter when it comes to dance. I know...See More

    • Tomas Guerrero AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for mentioning this Mr. Earl. So many ways to look elegant and fashionable regardless of weight, body type or looks and people just continue to fail at this very important element of performing.

‎@ Elizabeth: "The dance community has no business throwing stones or criticizing such a shallow thing as how someone looks in their costume."

Isn't that exactly y we watch a performance: to see have a dancer moves in a costume? Call me shal...See More

‎@Earl, I never said I didn't respect your opinion. I simply stated mine. We can agree to disagree.
@Dana, I have to disagree with "if it's not about the aesthetics, why does the audience watch?" The audience is watching a DANCE SHOWCASE no...See More

‎'The way someone looks in their clothes has absolutely nothing to do with their talent and ability'.

If u blv that, we'll hv to agree to disagree. IMHO while watching a performance, all senses r engaged (as w/ eating & drinking). If not, mu...See More

I think some of us are misinterpreting Earl's perspective. Nevertheless, at the end of day this dance is very versatile and social, and caters to dancers of many shapes and sizes, who btw have talent and move well. However, this is showbiz,...See More

‎@ Dana: with all due respect, as a veteran of this dance, yes it does because I rather look at someone strutting their stuff comfortably in a nice classy costume than focus on how bad they look, which we can both agree is the first thing w...See More

I agree that the costume should be tailored and accommodated to make all shapes and sizes look appealing and be comfortable to the dancer at the same time. But when you use words like "offend" for either the dancer or the audience when it c...See More

    • Earl Rush Just because I use the word offend does not automatically mean the look is more important than the talent it means the look is important as well

    • Dana Nuheritage Liz it seems u agree w/ me. U wldn't xpct to see ballet dancers wearing burlap sacks or break dancers n 3 piece suits b/c costume is important.

I'm not parsing what Earl means by offend. But I'll leave it w/ this: Any body is free to go to the beach n a swimsuit & enjoy the ocean. Butt maybe an anorexic, a morbidly obese woman or man shldn't elect to wear a thong. That is what I thght his point was.

    • Earl Rush If costume is horrible it will distract the audience from being able to see the talent
